AB 1276 : Single-Use Foodware Accessories and Standard Condiments
California Assembly Bill 1276 (AB 1276) was chaptered in October 2021 to reduce waste from single-use items that are commonly provided by food facilities to customers with their ready-to-eat food. AB 1276 went into effect on January 1, 2022 and adds “single-use foodware accessories” and “standard condiments” to the restrictions already in place with single-use straws (AB 1884).
This new legislation prohibits food facilities, as defined in the regulation, from providing any single-use foodware accessories or standard condiments to a customer unless it is requested. In addition, the same items may not be bundled or packaged in ways that prevent the consumer from taking only the item wanted.
