SB 677: Retail Food Safety: Nonlatex Gloves

Nonlatex Gloves was introduced by Senator Ben Allen, passed through the Legislature, and was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on Sept. 5, 2019. This bill would prohibit the use of latex gloves in food facilities and retail food establishments. Incidences of latex allergies have increased due to widespread exposure to products containing natural rubber latex. Thisnew law protects both consumers and food service workers from exposure to latex. Food facility or retail food establishments may use nonlatex gloves such as nitrile, polyethylene, and vinyl as an alternative.
